Study Island Ribbon Competition (Middle School)

Classroom Improvement 1 Comment »

Teachers can never have enough incentive programs, right?  Mrs. Swords is starting her own initiative to reward students for their successes with Study Island, the online NJ Ask preparation program.  Every week, students spend about an hour working within Study Island assignments given to them by Mrs. Swords at www.studyisland.com.  To assist student with understanding the topics more thoroughly before they do Study Island, Mrs. Swords and Ms. Corisdeo teach mini-lessons and create in-class practice activities for students to complete.  How well they learned about the topics during class is demonstrated when students participate in Study Island assignments and earn ribbons for Proficient or Advanced scores.

To increase motivation to complete the Study Island assignments, Mrs. Swords and Ms. Corisdeo will be awarding the top three ribbon earners for each class each time they do Study Island.  The teachers have already noticed an increase in speed to finish the assignments.  : )  If students want to catch up or stay in the lead with their ribbon count, they can participate in Study Island from home by going to the website, logging in, and going to Mrs. Swords’ posted assignments.  Students can also print out their ribbons they earn from home, and Mrs. Swords will hang them around the room for everyone to see and be proud of!  Student assignments are mostly based on a 6th grade reading level to lessen students’ frustration levels, but students are welcome to work at their own grade level by clicking on their grade level on the left-hand side and working from their master list.

Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Swords
