These are two of my favorite reading decoding strategy posters to use with children.

The youngest, newest readers do well with the ‘reading star’, and the older children can handle the more complicated strategies in the ’stuck’ poster.  When first using the posters with children, I usually only focus on a couple strategies at a time.  An overview of all of them is fine, but when practicing how to implement them, take it slow.  Model how to use one or two of the strategies and then have the child or reading group practice how they would apply the same strategy when reading.
