It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. This is the time of year when a teacher can usually take a breath and reflect on how the year has gone so far.
I’ve been so fortunate to have accepted a new job this year as a literacy specialist/librarian/part-time administrator for a private Montessori school in Jersey City. I am loving the new experiences every day offers. I have not gone through the Montessori training, but I’m appreciated and respected for the compliment I offer to the existing program.
I am able to focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and writing development. I visit with the kindergarten kids at least 2-3 a week, and I meet additionally with the first grade students another 2-3 times a week for writing workshop. Kindergarten writing is integrated into the reading program with the guided reading program I am able to implement. The 40 kids I see look forward to literacy time, which makes all the work worth it.
More details to come. This is just a general explanation of what I’ve been up to. : )
