Students are now about halfway through their differentiated novels, and a couple weeks ago we took another set of quizzes. These quizzes were based on our state’s assessment (NJ Ask) format. Students had a more difficult time with these questions, because the format is more challenging. However, once the students become used to the format, it will help them not only on the quizzes but on the state tests. The students are also having to know more about the novel at a deeper level, so surface comprehension questions are less common. The classes are allowed to reference their resources, like the novel, their notes, and their READ bingo papers. Knowing a book well is not only about knowing the facts, but it’s also about knowing how to use the book as a source for comprehension questions. Having to check their answers or search for support in the text is not discouraged; it is encouraged. This is a real world strategy!
Below are quizzes of our six novels.
